MR Direct Volunteers for Project Playhouse
TOLEDO, Ohio (PRWEB) July 04, 2018 -- On May 31, 2018, the concourse of Fifth Third Field, home of the world-famous Toledo Mud Hens baseball team, was packed. But on this day, the crowd was not made up of the usual fans buying red-hots and cheering on their team; rather it was filled with hundreds of volunteers who decided to build playhouses for families they didn’t even know. The 30th anniversary of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity saw employees from 30 Northwest Ohio businesses participate in their Project Playhouse program. MR Direct was proud to be one of the companies represented.
The event was a new initiative for Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity and was deemed a great success. Each of the 30 families chosen to receive a dwelling was able to request a theme for it based on their children’s interests. Designs ranged from an Ohio State/Michigan rivalry motif to a “Little” Man Cave created by the MR Direct team.
“The playhouses are sponsored by the teams building them, and their sponsorships then help build big houses,” explained Erin McPartland, Development Director for Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. “So I like to say, ‘Little houses are helping to build big houses.’”
Sponsorships start at $3,000 and the proceeds go towards the construction of a full-size Habitat for Humanity house in the Toledo community in 2018.
Michael McIntyre, executive director of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, elaborated, "Project Playhouse is special because the community is building a blessing in a child’s life. We know when children ‘play house’ they are learning what having a home means to them.”
Each playhouse was constructed by a team of eight to ten workers and took over six hours to complete. The materials were pre-cut to allow for easy construction. Volunteers assembled doors, windows, trim, roofing, and then designed and colorfully painted the structure.
Paul Best, Marketing Coordinator for MR Direct, observed, “Seeing everyone come together for a common goal was inspiring, and to know that you are providing a service that you could see a family benefit from, meant everything. It was a fantastic experience that MR Direct was grateful to be a part of."
