Assamese is one of the Indic languages and is the official language of the state of Assam in the North-Eastern region of India. It is spoken by an estimated 24 million people and is the lingua franca of the region.

Anju Phukan is an active member of Mitali Sangha, a renowned women's organization based out of Guwahati, Assam, that works for social, cultural, educational, and economic development. She leads various literary events for the organization. Anju started her career in the education field as a schoolteacher.
