Live Arts Maryland Welcomes Grammy Award Nominee Performing Movies, Magic & More Nov. 7-8
Annapolis, Maryland (PRWEB) October 29, 2014 -- Grammy Award nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker returns to town to perform “Movies, Magic & More” with the Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 (7:30 p.m.) and 8 (8 p.m.) at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.
Grammy Award nominees are usually pretty good musicians. Some go way beyond “good” when they can cross musical genres and play anything very well. Ms. Baker is that kind of Grammy nomine. She first appeared with Live Arts Maryland last season for its holiday pops concert. The audience was so thrilled by her virtuosity and sparkly personality that they began to ask Music Director J. Ernest when he planned to have her come back before he could exit the building. Mr. Green is very happy to grant that audience request. “Jenny is an absolutely first-rate player and I couldn’t be happier that she’s coming back,” he says.
Ms. Baker is equally at home with many different kinds of music. Her best-selling CDs have included holiday music, Disney favorites and classics from the silver screen. Most recently, she added classic rock to her CD lineup. “Movies, Magic & More” features a great mix of music from all of the above. Audiences will hear movie themes from “The Mission” and “The Wizard of Oz” as well as from such Disney favorites as “Frozen,” “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast.” From her latest CD, Ms. Baker will perform an amazing version of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” and the Beatles classic, “Yesterday.” Her special virtuosity and charm flow through all these genres of music guaranteeing a very entertaining experience.
Those attending the Casual Friday concert will be treated to a special experience. Similar to the VH1 channel’s “Storytellers” series, Friday’s concert will feature Ms. Baker talking with Mr. Green and the audience about her music, sharing the stories of the pieces and why she chose them.
Ms. Baker’s albums have sold more than a quarter of a million copies since 1998. Her album "Wish Upon a Star: A Tribute to the Music of Walt Disney" earned a nomination at the 54th Grammy Awards for Best Pop Instrumental Album. Her albums consistently make the Billboard charts, with her 2010 album "Then Sings My Soul" hitting the #1 spot on the Top Classical Albums chart two weeks in a row. Her most recent CD, "Classic: The Rock Album" has also been met by critical acclaim and is yet another Billboard chart-topping album.
Ms. Baker has a worldwide fan base and regularly fills stadiums. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and Julliard, she has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Strathmore Hall and with many of the finest symphony orchestras in the country. She is a former violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC, and has collaborated with some of music’s biggest names, including Gladys Knight, Kurt Bestor, Marvin Hamlisch and even former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
