RE/MAX Agent Dina James Raising Funds for Local Boy Stricken with SMA
Longmont, CO (PRWEB) November 23, 2015 -- “SMA is a genetic neuromuscular disease characterized by muscle atrophy and weakness, and is the leading genetic cause of death in infants and toddlers,” said Dina. “Although there is currently no approved treatment for SMA, according to Cure SMA, doctors are on the verge of major breakthroughs that will eventually lead to a cure.”
In honor of Isaac and his family, Dina is spearheading the “Cooking for the Cranes” baked goods sale to benefit the family. The event will take place on December 5, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Black Canyon Distillery, 13710 Deere Ct. in Longmont. There will also be cake walks at 12, 2 and 4 p.m. as well as a money tree.
“The Crane’s are a local family struggling with the financial burden of having a child who’s been diagnosed with a devastating illness, so we are highly encouraging the community to come out and help offset some of the financial stress they are experiencing,” said Dina. “One way to help is to donate baked goods and bring them to Black Canyon by 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event.”
According to the SMA Foundation, SMA has generally been believed to affect as many as 10,000 to 25,000 children and adults in the United States, and therefore it is one of the most common rare diseases. One in 6,000 to one in 10,000 children are born with the disease, such as Isaac, who turned 21 months old on November 11 and got his first tooth at the end of October.
