Louisiana Treatment Center Townsend Sponsors Back to Basics Charity Shoe Drive
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- Townsend, a top Louisiana treatment center, is joining forces with Samaritan's Feet and the Handley Family Foundation for the Back to Basics shoe distribution event, which Samaritan's Feet holds each year.
Humanitarian non-profit Samaritan’s Feet has been collecting shoes for needy children over the past year, and volunteers will distribute them at the Back to Basics event. The event will take place on October 1, 2013 from 9 - 11 a.m. at Lagniappe Academies in New Orleans.
"The Back to Basics shoe drive is such an important event, and we’re excited to be involved," said Townsend CEO, Michael Handley. "Townsend is committed to helping Louisiana families, and this is just one more way we can help out. Every child deserves to have a pair of shoes on his or her feet, and we’re working to make that happen."
Children at the event will not only receive a new pair of shoes, but they will also have their feet washed by volunteers. The involved organizations hope to inspire recipients as well as meet their physical needs.
Last year, Samaritan’s Feet hosted 88 events nationwide, donating roughly 41,100 pairs of shoes to children in need. These events are designed to take some of the pressure off of families at the start of the school year, a time when expenses mount quickly.
Families who wish to be recipients in the event should pre-register to reserve a spot. Volunteers can contact Samaritan’s Feet to sign up. Media guests are also welcome at the event.
