LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Days after the remembrance of 9-11 and in memoriam of the many victims who have succumbed to acts of violence and brutality, Retired Sergeant Major Keith L. Craig calls leaders to the carpet to implement real change to policing in America.
In the wake of multiple societal atrocities and racial uproar-- the covid-19 global pandemic, the persecution of black men and women by polarized citizens and the police, protests, and riots -- evidence of disparities in the community, Craig provided anecdotes to leaders in a virtual town hall discussion, "United We Serve" on The Kelly Wright Show via The Black News Channel.
"I've grown tired of hearing about the problem and felt as though something had to be done to derive a solution," said Craig when asked about the premise of the panel discussion and his 4-point plan.
Craig suggests that multiple alliances and partnerships be forged to address and correct the systemic disparities and misconduct in police departments. He calls upon Mayors, Police Chiefs and Mental Health Associations to devise and execute a "common sense" plan to provide support to citizens, rather than ostracize or victimize them.
His "TERM", Training, Education, Ratio and Mental Health approach allows leaders and policy officers to protect and serve citizens, adhering to the original intent of their roles. It also allows for the hiring of former active duty and veteran personnel, diversity and sensitivity training, increases education requirements, revises the officer to citizen ratio in local communities, and infuses a mental health component to regulate the stability of engaged citizens (upon first response) and status of police officers.
"Don't Defund, Refund!," Craig insisted. He further explained, "Re-fund the programs that actually allow for the protection of and the provision of service to all citizens."
