Scott Harvey Wines Connects with Wine Club Members Using State-of-the-Art Wine Marketing Techniques: Introducing Scott Harvey TV
Napa Valley, CA (PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- Scott Harvey Wines' new state-of-the-art wine marketing techniques connect with Wine Club members through the introduction of Scott Harvey TV. The Napa Valley Winemaker may well offer the only Wine Club where the Winemaker walks members through tasting the wines in their shipment.
Viewers gain insights on decisions that go into the wines and ask questions in real time. Shareholder Justin Phillips implements the live online broadcasts.
The inaugural broadcast in October, 2013 connected with Wine Club members from California, Colorado, Minnesota, NY, Washington, Texas, and even England. “We’ve always been known as a wine company on the cutting edge of technology,” said Scott. The more we can communicate directly with our customers, the more fun it is.” He does a tasting of the wines sent out in the current wine club shipment. Viewers e-mail their questions or join a live tweetchat. Scott answers in real time.
Scott kicked off the first visual tasting, explaining, “I want wines that talk to you, that say I’m Napa Valley, I’m 2012 vintage.” The Sauvignon Blanc that Scott poured was judged at the California State Fair and rated the Best White Wine of Napa.
Scott was in the last week of Harvest. “I’ve been making wines for 40 years, the winemaker began. “The best year in those 40 years was 1991 and this is a harvest very similar to 1991. We’re real excited about the wines. The grapes are coming in at great acidity, brightness, great color, good ripeness without too high of an alcohol--which fits right in to our Old World Style of making wines.”
As he samples the wine together with his Wine Club viewers, he relates that “this is an aroma-rich wine rather than a bouquet-rich wine. ‘Bouquet’ is character you pick up from the winemaking process. ‘Aroma’ is character you pick up from the vineyard itself. Scott Harvey Wines makes aroma-rich wines, “because we like the wines to talk to you.”
Scott begins by tasting and telling the stories behind 3 wines that Wine Club members have received:
2012 Jana Rosé
2010 Mountain Selection Barbera
2011 Mountain Selection Zinfandel
Jana Harvey, Scott’s wife and co-owner and namesake for the Jana Winery Label, shows off the Magnum and mentions a special available to Wine Club members in their latest e-mailing. “Large-format wines last longer in the bottle,” says Scott. “It’s the same cork area for twice the volume of wine, so the aging potential is almost double in the large bottle.”
Next up, Scott and Jana taste the 2011 Mountain Selection Zinfandel (which subsequently was honored with the Double Gold Medal by San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.)
Scott went on to explain the magic of food and wine pairings. “With the reserve labels, I’ll blend these wines all day long in my lab, and when I think I have the blend that I want to bottle, I’ll make up a whole bottle from the lab and we have that wine with dinner. Jana and I cook together all the time. She’s rather fun to chase around the kitchen. Most wine makers leave the wine at the winery. They don’t take the wine home. It’s kind of a mistake. You really want the wine to work with the food. After 2-3 bites of steak, when the steak flavors have built up in your mouth, they no longer taste like the first bite. But wine, with its acidity, washes all those flavors out so that the next bite of steak tastes like the first bite again.”
“That’s what we’re looking for. Jana has a very good palate. If the wine doesn’t work with the meal, then I go back and keep blending. If it does, it ends up with this designation, J&S Reserve. These wines are handcrafted because we really take the time to make sure they go well with food.”
Scott continues telling the story behind 3 more wines:
2011 J&S Reserve Syrah
2010 Vineyard 1869 Zinfandel
2010 Jana Cathedral Cabernet Sauvignon
Feedback from viewers has been very positive, and Scott Harvey Wines plans to open up Scott Harvey TV to the public later in 2014. “The visual connection has really made a difference in how people feel about the wines and their tasting experience,” said Jana.
