World Dream Foundation Brings Hope and Healthcare to the Slums of Nairobi
During the organization's second visit to Kenya, World Dream Foundation advanced education and healthcare within two of Nairobi's most impoverished slums, providing hope and improved health for the city's children.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The World Dream Foundation (WDF) has concluded the organization's second humanitarian trip to Kenya, where it advanced education, improved healthcare, and brought hope to children in two of Nairobi's most destitute slums – Mukuru and Mathare.
However, WDF did not achieve these outcomes alone. It required time, commitment, and collaboration with other organizations and volunteers. Julia Folk, the organization's founder and CEO, explained that, "Compassion can unite us and help us to empower the most disadvantaged populations around the world. It's about empowering communities through education and resource availability to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting change."
World Dream Foundation worked closely with the Jambo Charity Organization, which has been serving Nairobi's slums since 2012, as well as One Good Turn, an organization providing practical medical education and culturally-sensitive medical care to the world's most neglected communities. Together, they provided albendazole treatments to children and teachers to help treat parasitic worms.
Additionally, WDF partnered with Dr. Ann Messer, the Founder of One Good Turn, and the Change a Life Ministry, a school in Mathare, to provide CPR training and education on how to examine patients and treat a wide range of diseases to community health workers with little or no formal training.
Finally, WDF furthered the organization's goal of building a brand-new school for children in Mukuru that will be an example for others to follow. During the visit, WDF board members visited the development site, agreed on innovative construction techniques, set operation and administration strategies, and expanded the school's development plan.
WDF's success is an example of what happens when nonprofit organizations and communities come together. "Creating a better world requires cross-organization teamwork, partnership, and collaboration," affirmed Julia Folk.
