Yates Family Law to Join Portland-based Gevurtz Menashe
PORTLAND (PRWEB) July 06, 2023 -- Gevurtz Menashe is pleased to announce that Michael A. Yates and his team joined the firm, effective June 26, 2023. Yates will handle family law matters for clients in Oregon.
With nearly 40 years’ experience, Yates is recognized as one of Oregon’s preeminent family law attorneys. He has been included in the annual editions of The Best Lawyers in America since 2003 and is consistently named as an "Oregon Super Lawyer," a recognition of the top 5% of practicing Oregon attorneys, as determined by a rigorous peer review process.
The move is a homecoming of sorts for Yates, who began his family law practice with Gevurtz Menashe in 1984. Formed in 1982, Gevurtz Menashe is dedicated to family law and estate planning in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Since its inception, the firm’s goal has been to deliver the highest level of service and best possible outcomes for families coping with crisis or preparing for change.

Since 2006, Yates has been named to the Oregon Super Lawyers list, including the state’s Top 10 for the past five years. In addition, Yates was named Family Lawyer of the Year in Portland, Oregon, in 2011 and 2016 by Best Lawyers. The Lawyer of the Year Award is an extremely prestigious honor named to only one lawyer per practice area within each metropolitan region, based on the highest peer ratings received. Additionally, in 2016, Yates received the Oregon State Bar Family Law Section’s Professionalism Award.
Yates obtained his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Kent State University and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law with honors in 1983. He is admitted to practice law in the state of Oregon. Michael is a member of the Multnomah, Washington County and Clackamas County Bar Associations.
Yates serves on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners and was its 2003 Board president. He also is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and is active in its Oregon Chapter, currently serving as Chapter Treasurer. He maintains an AV® Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell - the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.
