Inspiration for the novel was drawn from Molinski’s stay in the Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua in 1990 during the last year of the Contra War. Intrigued by the diversity of the Mosquito Coast and its people, he thought there is perhaps no better place on Earth to tell the story of global imperialism and its effects on people.
