Richard's support was the push Fitzgerald needed to go back to school in 1978, kickstarting his more than 40 years in veterinary medicine. 19 years later Fitzgerald received a life-changing phone call that resulted in Fitzgerald's 11 seasons on the hit Animal Planet reality show "Emergency Vets," and more recently, "E-Vet Interns."
