A Book Launch Party to Celebrate Metro the Painting Racehorse
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) April 06, 2016 -- Authored by Ron Krajewski and Suzy Flory, and published by New Horizon Press, Painting with Metro: How a Crippled Racehorse Rescued Himself (and Me) with a Paintbrush tells the inspirational story of Gettysburg-based artist Ron Krajewski, and Metro Meteor, a retired racehorse destined for the slaughterhouse.
Once a turf sprinter at Belmont and Saratoga, Metro’s racing career ended early with knee injuries. Although he was adopted by longtime animal advocates Ron Krajewski and his wife Wendy, Metro still struggled with his health in retirement. Looking for ways to keep Metro engaged and active, Ron taught him to hold a paint brush in his mouth and it was immediately evident that painting big, sweeping brush strokes on the canvas made Metro happy. A unique partnership between man and animal was formed. Metro’s colorful paintings began to attract national attention and he quickly became one of Gallery 30’s most celebrated artists. Now, Metro spends his days raising money for horse rescue through his abstract art paintings. As of 2015, Metro’s art has raised over $80,000 for racehorse rescue.
“From the start, we believed in Ron and Metro. What they were doing together, as a team, was just incredible. We knew we wanted to represent them and share their unique collaboration with a broader audience,” said Linda Atiyeh, owner of Gallery 30. “It’s truly been a pleasure to see how their work inspires people and how it has helped to nurture a greater appreciation for the arts. We are also so pleased to know that the animal rescue community has benefited from Metro’s unique talent.” For Metro and Ron's book launch party, Gallery 30 will donate a portion of the Metro book sale proceeds to Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization devoted to the rescue of Draft and Draft Cross horses from slaughter, abuse, and neglect.
Due to Metro’s health concerns, he has made only one other public appearance since retiring from racing, however at the April 16th book launch, visitors will have an opportunity to see Metro and his buddy Pork Chop, to enjoy light refreshments and to explore Metro’s new paintings at Gallery 30. Autographed copies of Painting with Metro: How a Crippled Racehorse Rescued Himself (and Me) with a Paintbrush. available exclusively at Gallery 30, as well as the Coloring with Metro book will be available for purchase. In addition, limited edition Metro shirts and mugs custom-designed by Gallery 30 for this special event will be available for purchase as well.
