A Fatal Virus in Which Type B Blood Is the Only Safeguard Leads to Devastating Social Upheaval in Gripping New Thriller
In 'Type B' by Steve Mitchell, the onset of a deadly pandemic proves chaos and corruption are equally contagious
CINCINNATI, Jan. 31, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Steve Mitchell has made his authorial debut with "Type B," a high-stakes, adrenaline-packed medical thriller about a world fighting for survival after a sudden and highly lethal pandemic hits.
The book follows John, a laboratory courier for Christ Hospital, whose mundane routine is interrupted after he receives an unusual order to pick up emergency blood specimens. Upon returning to the lab, John encounters two Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials and soon discovers the specimens he delivered are part of an investigation into a mysterious blood disease, B Antigen Resistive Disease (BARD), caused by the rapidly spreading Sanguis virus.
While much is unknown about the virus and corresponding disease, it is discovered that children are not impacted until they reach adolescence and the only safeguard against it for adults is having type B blood, leaving all others susceptible to death. As the virus grips the world and widespread panic sets in, John and his son Peter are desperate to protect their family from not only the disease but also the violent chaos that ensues in its wake.
Originally written 20 years prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, "Type B" demonstrates how a global pandemic of such lethality could easily unravel social order. Mitchell draws from both his scientific and military backgrounds to explore how fear, desperation and a struggle for survival shape individual choice and action as well as how people might conduct themselves in the absence of authority and with no consequences for their actions. At the same time, Mitchell illuminates the strength of the human spirit and the willingness to protect one another, both formidable even amid devastation and loss.
"Steve Mitchell is an absolute talent," wrote Arthur Thares for Pacific Book Review. "Not only is this story well-written, but he doesn't pull any punches when it comes to characters . . . His attention to detail is stunning and paints a picture which is sometimes too close to reality for comfort."
