A Memoir Chronicles Family's Healing Journey After Son's Leukemia Diagnosis
SASKATCHEWAN, Canada, May 30, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In the hope of capturing the emotional struggles and resilience of a family after receiving the news of a cancer diagnosis, author Peg Beaton shares her family's story.
Beaton describes how they navigated through the complexities of the disease in her new book, "Healing: A Family's Journey," a memoir dedicated to sharing their journey to healing after a leukemia diagnosis.
The book details Beaton's path to understanding grief and how it affected her and her family after learning about her young son's leukemia diagnosis in 1976. Beaton and her husband embarked on an unpredictable path lined with emotions they did not understand or know how to deal with. However, 44 years later, she now understands grief and how it affects each person.
"In my 30 years of counseling and coaching, I have become aware of how many people are not aware of the process of grief," Beaton said. "When people understand how to process their grief, they can move on to focus on the living. When given the news my son would only have two months to live, I had to first understand the grieving process, and then move into an acceptance stage, embracing a new direction, filled with peace and joy."
Beaton includes chapter summaries and an appendix that offers valuable insight into grief and hopes to empower those suffering to move from an existence fueled by fear and negativity into a state of positivity that welcomes fulfillment.
"By sharing my family's experience, I hope our story may help others understand the grieving process and ultimately heal," Beaton said. "Learning to embrace and integrate our loss allows us to move forward with a new sense of wholeness and strength."
