The Los Angeles area-based dermatologists welcomed Rohit Kakar, MD, to a new fellowship at the start of August

As dermatologists serving the Los Angeles area, Dr. Derek Jones and Dr. Naissan Wesley of Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills are always seeking to further the skin-care services available to residents of one of the sunniest and most populous areas in the country. One way they do this is working with cosmetic fellows at their practice, the newest of which started on Aug. 1.

Dr. Rohit Kakar, who received a doctorate in medicine in 2012 from Michigan State University’s College of Medicine and just a couple of months ago completed a residency at the University of Oklahoma’s Department of Dermatology, is now officially training with Dr. Jones and Dr. Wesley. Dr. Kakar also completed a fellowship in melanoma and cutaneous oncology at Georgetown Univeristy.

The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) cosmetic dermatologic surgery fellowship puts fellows into accredited programs where they work with two faculty members to gain hands-on experience with one-on-one learning opportunities.

As an international lecturer and the author of more than 110 peer-review publications—mostly focused on injectables—Dr. Jones emphasizes injectables in the Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills fellowship, though it also includes work with lasers and energy-based devices.

Dr. Kakar will lead a research project, as well as have publishing opportunities during the year-long fellowship. There will also be an opportunity to treat patients as Dr. Kakar gains mastery of cosmetic treatments.

The ASDS requires fellows to document procedures, both observed and performed. At Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills, that will include work with dermal fillers, neuromodulators like BOTOX® Cosmetic, rejuvenation treatments (lasers, peels, microneedling, PRP, etc.), resurfacing treatments, vein treatments, body contouring with CoolSculpting®, hair treatments (restoration and removal), and scar revision.

Fellows are also required to lead a research project throughout the year and may participate in others as sub- or co-investigators.

Dr. Kakar is not the first fellow to spend a year training at Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills. Dermatologist Dr. Jeanette Black joined Dr. Jones and Dr. Wesley in September of 2017, after completing her own year-long fellowship at the practice.

Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills is at 9201 W. Sunset Blvd., Suite 602, Los Angeles, CA 90069. For more information about Dr. Jones, Dr. Wesley, Dr. Black, or the new fellow, Dr. Kakar, call 310-246-0495, or come to the office. Visit http://www.skincareandlaser.com.
