The wait is over, Jackson, MS officially has a new indoor arena league football team – the Mississippi Raiders. After a few years in Hattiesburg, the Mississippi Raiders have found a new home in Jackson.

“The move from Hattiesburg to Jackson was one that was not done lightly. We thought long and hard about the move and determined that at this time Jackson was the right place for this team. We leave behind great relationships with the community of Hattiesburg and look forward to having a team there in the future,” says team owner, James Germany.

For now and the foreseeable future, the Mississippi Raiders will call Jackson home.

For many football players, arena league football is a stop gap or a stepping stone towards recruitment by a national football organization. More importantly, this team and others team like it want to provide solid opportunities for HBCU players who do not traditionally get the nod or invitation to the NFL combine.

In a few weeks, the Raiders will travel to Tampa, FL where a new indoor arena league will be introduced. As for now, James Germany has this to say about the upcoming season and playing in a new league. “The motto for the league is – It is more than football. That alone excites me and other owners because we have all been a part of organizations who put the game above the players. This time the players and their lives come first,” Germany said.

Faith, family, football – its more than the title of the book in the movie Best Man II – it is what all the teams in the new league are being asked to focus on. “If we focus on faith and family first, football just falls in line,” says league owner Alton Walker. “I wanted to create a league that focused on the whole person and not just the player as a commodity.”

“It is the goal of Visit Jackson to connect, engage and inspire the Jackson Community by providing leadership in securing activities that have the propensity to impact the economy of the Capital City positively,” said Dr. Rickey Thigpen, Visit Jackson’s President & CEO. “Additionally, our research has identified sports as a primary vertical market segment focus during the upcoming year. Hence, the partnership with the

Mississippi Raiders is perfect! We are excited to be the new home to Mississippi’s arena football team; we look forward to the diversification of our tourism and sporting product and the opportunity to bring Raider Fans to the city. This partnership is more than football … It is a conduit that will further develop a sense of place for our community, create opportunities for our residents, and construct robust experiences that help manifest Jackson as a destination city.”

With strategic partnerships with Jackson State and Visit Jackson along with many others in the works, the Mississippi Raiders have planted their feet solidly on the ground and are off and running with no letting up.
