A Reinvented Trident University Rings in 2014
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) January 10, 2014 -- Trident University (Trident) spent 2013 significantly enhancing its infrastructure and online platforms to exceed the needs and expectations of its diverse, mostly military, student population in 2014 and beyond. In 2013, Trident appointed a new President, hired a new Chief Financial Officer, saw its accreditation reaffirmed by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), established a Career Services office for all students and alumni, completed a major upgrade to its portal system through which online students access their classes and receive services from the university, and is now introducing a brand new online classroom experience for students.
"I am extremely pleased with the progress we made in 2013. Trident spent several years selecting and testing learning management systems and portal designs that are robust enough to accommodate our students and faculty. The launch of the Trident Learning Community (TLC) this past fall was a big accomplishment because it dramatically streamlines how our students access their information and receive university services,” says Andy Vaughn, President of Trident. The Trident Learning Community is a single sign-on portal that enables students from around the world to have instant, real-time access to their virtual classroom, grades, academic advising, technical assistance, career services, and more.
The efficiencies realized through the TLC are not the only advancements for students and faculty. The January 6, 2014 term brings with it a reinvented academic experience for many students. Trident’s legacy system, which had been in place for over 15 years, is being replaced by a dynamic learning management system capable of handling synchronous and asynchronous communication for thousands of students simultaneously. “We expect that our students will love their new virtual classroom,” states Trident Provost Dr. Michael Mahoney. “It contains everything the student needs to complete their course in an easy to navigate, one-stop location.” The virtual classroom is powered by Desire2Learn, a leading provider of learning management systems.
Trident is using a phased approach for introducing its students to the new virtual classroom beginning with its master’s degree students in January, followed by its bachelor and doctoral students in the spring session. It is expected that the easy to navigate classroom format will drive increased student engagement, resulting in greater student outcomes and achievements in 2014 and beyond.
