Upgrade My Crawl Space's debut coincides with a renewed government focus on reducing carbon emissions by weatherizing single family homes. President Biden and Vice President Harris outlined a plan to build a modern, sustainable infrastructure and an equitable clean energy future, which includes a commitment to weatherize at least two million low-income homes over the next four years.
According to a report published by Shipshape, weatherizing 26 million crawl spaces in the United States would reduce carbon emissions by approximately 0.85% or over 17 million tons of carbon each year. According to the study by Southern California Edison, crawl space upgrades reduce HVAC energy consumption by 15% to 32%. This energy savings is monumental considering "nearly one-third of U.S. households reported financial stress in paying energy bills," according to the latest Residential Energy Consumption Survey by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
