AAAAI Installs New President, Dr. Robert Wood, at 2018 Joint Congress
MILWAUKEE (PRWEB) March 07, 2018 -- The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) is pleased to introduce its 2018-2019 President, Robert A. Wood, MD, FAAAAI.
Wood was installed March 5 during the AAAAI Business Meeting at the 2018 AAAAI/WAO Joint Congress in Orlando, Florida. The AAAAI is the largest professional membership organization for allergist/immunologists, other medical specialists, allied health and related healthcare professionals—all with a special interest in the research and treatment of allergic and immunologic diseases, including asthma.
“My presidential theme is optimal care for the food allergic patient with a focus on four key areas of need: a rational approach to treatment, optimizing prevention, making an accurate diagnosis, and best practices for the prevention and treatment of anaphylaxis,” said Wood. “The timing is perfect as food allergy is playing an increasingly important role in the allergy/immunology specialty and this role will only increase as the disease becomes more prevalent and treatments become available.”
Wood is a professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a professor of international health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. An internationally recognized expert in food allergy and childhood asthma, Wood is chief of the Eudowood Division of Allergy and Immunology in the Johns Hopkins Children's Center. He also serves as director of the Pediatric Allergy Clinics, the Pediatric Allergy Consultation Service, and the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Wood has published more than 200 manuscripts in scientific journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Pediatrics, and The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI), as well as three books and numerous book chapters.
He is associate editor of JACI and deputy editor of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, and was previously an associate editor of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He has served on the Board of Directors of the AAAAI and American Board of Allergy and Immunology.
Wood earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed both a three-year pediatrics residency—as well as an additional year serving as chief resident in pediatrics—and a pediatric allergy and immunology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Wood joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1988.
