Abington Health Appoints Sternlieb Chief Medical Information Officer
Abington, PA (PRWEB) May 13, 2014 -- Jonathan M. Sternlieb, M.D., F.A.C.G., has been selected for the position of chief medical information officer for Abington Health. In his new position, Sternlieb will collaborate on the design, implementation and strategic planning of clinical information systems.
He will be responsible for providing leadership for clinical information technology, and for supporting ongoing initiatives in clinical integration, evidence-based practice pathways, clinical care standardization workflow and clinical decision support across the Abington Health organization. Additionally, Sternlieb will serve as a physician informatics champion, promoting the use of IT in the clinical setting.
“As a practicing physician who has been working in informatics and has completed a graduate certificate program in biomedical and health informatics at the Oregon Health and Sciences University, Dr. Sternlieb is uniquely qualified for this position,” said John J. Kelly, M.D., chief of staff, Abington Memorial Hospital. “Dr. Sternlieb brings a valuable perspective—keen knowledge of the technology coupled with a personal understanding of what is needed and practical for doctors practicing medicine.”
Sternlieb earned his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. His postgraduate training included an internship and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital where he was chief resident in medicine from 1987 to 1988. Sternlieb completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1990.
He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and holds a board certification in clinical informatics from the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Sternlieb has lectured on a number of topics related to gastroenterology and medical informatics, including computerized physician order entry and the exchange of clinical information across health systems.
