VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) announces the return of Active Aging Week, October 5–11, 2026, a global celebration designed to challenge outdated perceptions of aging and demonstrate what is possible when people have opportunities to stay active, connected, engaged and well throughout life.
Presented by Humana, Active Aging Week is expected to engage more than 5,000 organizations, host over 20,000 activities and events, and reach more than one million participants. Senior living communities, senior centers, health and fitness organizations, municipalities, parks and recreation departments, community organizations and others will come together around one shared idea: aging should be defined by possibility, not limitation.
Throughout the week, participating organizations will open their doors and create opportunities for people to experience the many dimensions of wellness. Activities will range from fitness classes, health screenings and educational workshops to arts and cultural programs, social events, community service projects, fundraisers and intergenerational activities.
"Active Aging Week is about changing what people believe is possible as we age," says Colin Milner, CEO and Founder of the International Council on Active Aging. "When more than one million people come together to move, learn, connect, contribute and celebrate, we send a powerful message. Older adults are not defined by age or limitations. They are active participants in their communities, with the ability to continue growing, contributing and living with purpose."
Active Aging Week also provides organizations with an opportunity to introduce individuals to programs, activities and experiences they may not otherwise try. By removing barriers and creating welcoming opportunities to participate, the campaign encourages people to discover new ways to support their health, well-being and quality of life.
"Active aging is about more than movement and physical health. We deeply believe at Humana that well-being as people age is also defined by purpose, connection, and security – key components of fulfillment. When older adults have new experiences, maintain friendships, or give back to their community, they are creating the foundation for not only a long life, but also a life well lived," said Kristin Warfield, Director Brand Relationships at Humana.
Organizations and individuals can participate in several ways:
- Host activities and events: Organizations can become Active Aging Week host sites and create experiences that reflect the interests and needs of their communities.
- Join the celebration: Individuals can participate in local activities and discover new opportunities to move, connect, learn and engage.
- Share the movement: Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and stories through social media using #ActiveAgingWeek2026.
At its heart, Active Aging Week is about more than seven days of activities. It is about creating a different vision of aging—one that recognizes ability, potential, contribution and the opportunity to live well at every stage of life.
