Book follows author through treatment as she regains hope for her future
UNION, N.J., Sept. 6, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- According to Psychcentral.com, "covert abuse includes any type of underhanded and deceitful behavior on the part of the abuser used to manipulate others in order to gain power and control." The effects of this abuse on a child can cause long-term, often hidden, heartache as they travel through adulthood.
"An Unsuspecting Child" by Marylee Martin is both a personal memoir and a psychological look at the damage done to a child through covert abuse. This autobiography follows the author's journey as a child and how her trauma eventually led to mayhem in her life that she didn't understand and couldn't stop. In sharing her story, she hopes to encourage others, no matter what their past, to seek professional help and find freedom to rediscover a sense of normalcy.
"This book is about what happens when a father decides to make his nine-year-old daughter into the perfect wife," said Martin. "Though I have been successful, I knew nothing about creating good relationships or actual love. At 53, I sought out professional help, and it saved my life and gave me the key that opened the door to my past."
"An Unsuspecting Child" has already been the recipient of three awards: it placed first for autobiographies in the Firebird Book Awards, and third for autobiographies and third for the Women's Non-Fiction & Women's Issues category in the Outstanding Creator Awards.
"I really hope this book can assist others who have lived through the pain, confusion and suffering that is caused by abuse, and have come out the other side, through the use of therapy," said Martin.
