NEW YORK, July 31, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- It may be a sweltering hot summer, but farmers and producers from upstate New York's Adirondacks and Thousand Islands Region are offering New Yorkers a cool escape at the Seaport District with a unique "Adirondacks & 1000 Islands Festival" (#ADK1000) on Piers 16 & 17 on Sunday August 11. The FREE event, held as part of the Fulton Stall Market's regular Sunday outdoor market, offers attendees an opportunity to sample and purchase the delicious, diverse farm fresh foods and craft beverages of the Adirondacks and Thousand Islands Regions – referred to as the North Country – at a spectacular waterfront location in the city's original market district.
At the event 40+ farmers & producers will offer samples and sales of their specialty products highlighting North Country produce, cheeses, maple syrup, craft cider, beer, wine, and spirits, and other regional delicacies that will inspire New Yorkers to take a weekend getaway to the Adirondacks and 1000 Islands regions in late summer, fall and winter. There will be live music and fun and educational activities for families and children, including farm and food demos, "sugar-on-snow" sampling, kids craft sessions and hiking and camping demos by Adirondack Mountain Club members.
"Our fall harvest season is fantastic and visiting the North Country should be on every foodie's bucket list," says Michele Ledoux, Executive Director of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County in the Adirondacks, who spearheaded organizing the event. The participating North Country farmers, winemakers and craft beverage producers include Essex Farm, Nettle Meadow Cheese Company, Hidden Pastures Dairy, Moser's Maple, Adirondack Beef Company, Black River Valley Natural butter, Zoar Tapatree Maple, Lyndaker's Maple Orchard, Naturally Yours Honey, Four Maples Vineyard, Grist Mill Distillery, Plattsburgh Brewing Company, Busted Grapes Winery, St. Lawrence Spirits, Tug Hill Winery, with more added in coming weeks.
Ron Ofner of the Adirondack Region Tourism Council comments, "there's so much scenic beauty year-round in the Adirondacks and when you consider all of our farm-to-table restaurants, ski resorts, campsites, farms and craft beverage trails to explore, it really is the perfect getaway." Cathy Moore, Agriculture Issue Leader for Cornell Cooperative Extension comments, "there's no better place for leaf peeping, kayaking or fishing than in the Thousand Islands Region, so we're thrilled to present this event that also features the agriculture, food and beverages that make our area so unique."
Hosted by the Fulton Stall Market, the #ADK1000 Festival not only offers an opportunity for consumers to get a taste of the North Country but also for NYC restaurants and retail stores to discover and source specialty items from its farmers and producers.
Fulton Stall Market is a unique indoor and outdoor public market at the Seaport, and has become lower Manhattan's daily hub for access to local foods, education, events and local agritourism programming. Fulton Stall Market's Public Market Advisor and a cofounder of Greenmarket in 1976, Bob Lewis, says "The Adirondacks and 1000 Islands may seem far away, but they are experiencing an exciting agricultural and farm-to-table revival. What we are doing is forging connections and creating economic development for a region that while best known as an outdoor recreation paradise also produces top-notch food, beverages and agritourism experiences. We hope this unique one-day event will also facilitate new wholesale connections and new marketing channels in the NYC marketplace for these North Country food and agricultural producers and their products."
This event is presented by Visit Adirondacks, 1000 Islands International Tourism Council, Cornell Cooperative Extensions Associations of the North Country, Development Authority of the North Country, hosted by the Fulton Stall Market and produced by EscapeMaker.com, a guide to local farm escapes and weekend getaways from NYC and whose pop-up shop is located in the indoor Fulton Stall Market at 91 South Street.
