BROOMFIELD, Colo., Oct. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- With the support of students, staff, government officials and the Broomfield Police Department, Adolfson & Peterson Construction cut the ribbon on the new Thunder Vista P-8 project on Thursday, Sept. 27.
This new 136,036-sf school will eventually serve 1,000 students and is Denver's first building certified under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Verified Leader program. The building uses brick and metal panels that incorporate colors from the natural setting and brick fins on the end of the classroom wings match the Flatirons. A "learning stair" connects the cafeteria to the main level and an open library features an upper level for middle school students. The facility includes an energy-efficient mechanical system with ground source heat pumps, outdoor classrooms, and a community garden.
Since the school has been open for the 2018-2019 school year, students of the choir sang Phillip Phillips' song Home, reflecting their feelings of how the new place feels like home.
"I think Thunder Vista can be a school of love and hope, a school where no bullies stand," said 7th grade student Alyssa Cripe. "I fully support Thunder Vista."
Other speakers included Thunder Vista Principal Teresa Benallo, Adams 12 Five Star Schools (A12) Superintendent Chris Gdowski, A12 Board of Education President Kathy Plomer, and City and County of Broomfield Mayor Pro Tem Bette Erickson. Tours of the school were given after the ribbon was cut, while a video, made by students and staff, expressed the benefits of the school.
