Advanced Kiosks is the New Big Man on Campus
Franklin, NH (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- The University of North Dakota (UND) recently increased its fleet of interactive kiosk printing stations with a 2013 order from Advanced Kiosks, one of the largest producers and innovators of self-service kiosks in the country. UND now has a total of 13 Document Kiosks placed strategically across campus in high-traffic areas.
These printing kiosks are part of UND’s strategic planning initiative to better serve today’s uber-connected college students who prefer to use their own technology. Center for Instructional & Learning Technologies Associate Director Joshua Jones explained, “We’ve made the decision to give the students services versus hardware. Instead of building more computer labs, we need to meet them where they are.”
Students upload print jobs from their personal computers to UND’s own uPrint Web Print System. They can then go to any kiosk, swipe their student ID card and collect the document.
In a competitive bid process, UND selected Advanced Kiosks as its vendor for the Document Kiosk’s flexibility, security, eye-catching aesthetics and, above all, ease of use. UND kiosks are fitted with credit card readers and phone handsets hardwired to IT support. The kiosks include all-metal sealed keyboards, but Jones’ team recently opted to remove and store them, preferring Advanced Kiosks’ OneFinger Touch Screen Keyboard.
“Advanced Kiosks products are just designed great,” Jones raved. UND wanted “that armored ATM machine look,” and these kiosks fit the bill with an approachable, sleek-but-sturdy design that appeals to students. Now into its second year of kiosk use, uPrint has gone from 1.2 million pages printed annually to almost 2.3 million.
UND has grown to depend on Advanced Kiosks as it works toward its goal of having a public print station in every building on campus. Interactive kiosks are now seen as viable and attractive solutions for every aspect of university life – from printing to bill paying, registering for classes to weighing dining hall options. Kiosks are ideal for budget-conscious schools catering to technologically savvy students as they prepare for life and work in an increasingly digital world.
