WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Organizers expect hundreds of attendees for the 12th Annual Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM) Summit on October 29 and 30, 2019 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington D.C.
Agencies are under increasing pressure to perform their missions more effectively and efficiently, while the types of challenges that government confronts are growing more complex. Agency leaders are expected to keep programs and operations on track by getting ahead of risks before they turn into problems. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is an approach that leaders can apply to gain a comprehensive assessment of the biggest risks to mission success and provides a strategy for managing and mitigating these risks. ERM can improve positive outcomes while reducing negative surprises, improve resource deployment, and enhance organizational resilience.
The AFERM Summit is the largest event of its kind offering opportunities for attendees to advance their knowledge of ERM and network with other professionals across the public sector who are charting the course of the future of ERM. The AFERM Summit helps risk professionals in their professional development by offering different learning tracks based on area of interest and level of experience as well as providing demonstrations of tools for managing enterprise risks and the chance to hear insights and lessons learned from experienced ERM professionals. This year virtual attendance is also possible with a live streaming registration option.
This year's Summit theme, "Next Generation of ERM: What You Need to Know," focuses on highlighting inspiring and engaging insights, experiences, and stories from industry leaders and innovators advancing government risk management. As an added opportunity, on October 30th before the 2019 ERM Summit activities begin, the Federal (FED) portion of the RIMS-CRMP-FED professional certification exam will be offered. The RIMS-CRMP-FED is a credential that was developed by the Risk Management Society (RIMS) in cooperation with AFERM. It distinguishes the achievement of validated risk management competencies for an effective risk management professional in the federal government environment. Tom Brandt, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Chief Risk Officer and President of AFERM, notes "the RIMS-CRMP-FED credential helps set a governmentwide standard for the skills and expertise that risk analysts should have on the job, even though agencies still face challenges that are unique to their missions."
