SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- More than 100,000 public housing apartments have been converted to Section 8 through the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) since 2012, according to a recent report prepared for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by Econometrica Inc. These conversions represent more than $12.6 billion raised to address a longtime backlog in capital improvements to the nation's public housing stock.
As RAD continues to transform housing across the country, affordable housing practitioners will gather to discuss best practices and the future of RAD at the Novogradac 2020 RAD Public Housing Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Jan. 9-10, 2020. The conference presents an opportunity for affordable housing providers to discuss types of RAD transactions and financing options, and will include targeted sessions for public housing authorities, developers and consultants.
"This conference comes at an important time because of the growth of HUD's RAD program that we've seen over the years," said Rich Larsen, CPA, partner at Novogradac and conference co-chairman. "The affordable housing community faces a significant opportunity to build on RAD's success so far."
"The RAD program's success is so important for the preservation of affordable housing," said Rebecca Arthur, MAI, Novogradac partner and conference co-chairwoman. "The success of the program is remarkable and shows that people understand the nationwide necessity for more affordable housing."
Conference panel topics will include Community Reinvestment Act and housing finance reform and how they could affect RAD, combining historic tax credits with RAD and pursuing RAD transactions in opportunity zones. In addition, the conference will provide several networking opportunities. The full agenda can be found here. Pre-conference workshops will be held Jan. 8 on low-income housing tax credit and RAD basics. Separate registration and fees apply for the pre-conference workshops.
The Novogradac 2020 RAD Public Housing Conference is sponsored by The Alliant Company, Arnall Golden Gregory, LLP, Bank of America, Bellwether Enterprise, Enterprise, Monterey County Housing Authority Development Corporation, R4 Capital and RedStone Equity Partners.
