DENVER, Dec. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Australia's AGL Energy has selected Enbala to provide the cloud-based control and optimization platform for its Virtual Power Plant (VPP) project which is being built in South Australia.
Enbala is providing AGL with a VPP platform capable of orchestrating a diverse range of residential, behind-the-meter battery storage systems through cloud-based control systems being developed by energy storage system vendors.
The Enbala Engine will aggregate these distributed energy resources (DERs) to create a centrally controllable VPP that can be used in a diverse range of applications, including:
- Demand response and peak demand management
- Frequency regulation and frequency response
- Voltage response and voltage management
"AGL's VPP project has evolved to include the latest technology at the hardware level and now at the orchestration software level by bringing onboard Enbala's market leading platform," said AGL Executive General Manager Wholesale Markets Richard Wrightson.
"We will leverage what we learn from this new phase of the project to develop business models and products for orchestrated DERs to help us reduce costs for customers, while supporting the grid-reducing costs for all grid users by making the most efficient use of batteries as DERs."
The VPP project has received funding form the Australian Renewable Energy Agency through its Advancing Renewables fund.
