Ash Island is largely used for hunting, boating and agriculture. The island is largely supported by a new variety, high-value hazelnut orchard. The orchard is irrigated from senior water rights from the Willamette River. The balance of the property consists of crops for waterfowl and woods.
The island provides a natural spot for recreation. Veatch says: "It's a fantastic spot for boating, fishing and great habitat for both Blacktail Deer and waterfowl."
Located just upstream from a public boat launch, the island is easily accessed. It also is equipped with a barge system from the mainland. This forty-foot barge allows for the transport of campers, RVs, people, farm equipment and crops back and forth from the mainland to the island. The barge launch is accessed via a dedicated easement and gated gravel parking area on the mainland.
The island is approximately forty minutes southwest of Portland - Oregon's largest city - and about an hour to the international airport.
