The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Wexford Hospital emergency department and the AHN Outpatient Center – Westmoreland endoscopy center have been recognized by Press Ganey with a 2022 Guardian of Excellence® Award in the patient experience category. This award recognizes these AHN facilities as being in the top 5 percent for performance in patient experience of the more than 41,000 health care facilities that Press Ganey works with across the country.

Press Ganey is a nationally renowned health care company that measures and analyzes patient satisfaction through surveys and supports health care organizations in their quality improvement initiatives. The ‘Guardian of Excellence Award’ is given annually by Press Ganey to health care facilities who rank in the 95th percentile for patient experience.

Located north of Pittsburgh in Pine Twp., AHN Wexford Hospital opened to patients in September 2021. The 160-bed hospital includes a 24-bed emergency department which boasts some of the shortest wait times nationally. Most patients are seen by a clinician within 14 minutes of arriving at the hospital, on average. Emergency care services are also provided to children, sparing parents from having to travel into the city when their child requires emergent medical care.

AHN Outpatient Center—Westmoreland, located on Nature Park Road in Hempfield Township, is a 23,000-square-foot multispecialty facility which provides access to a range of medical specialists. Its state-of-the-art endoscopy center provides patients in the region with convenient access to outpatient gastrointestinal procedures such as colonoscopy.

“We congratulate the outstanding caregivers and staff at these two facilities for this much deserved recognition. Their exceptional patient care sets great examples for our programs and facilities across the network,” said Eugene Scioscia, MD, AHN chief patient experience officer and Barb Bobula, AHN vice president of patient experience.

Each AHN hospital and outpatient center employs designated patient experience representatives who serve as intermediaries between patients and staff, celebrating positive feedback while identifying opportunities to improve performance. Through education and training, these patient experience representatives support their colleagues as they strive to create an experience for all AHN patients that not only meets but exceeds their expectations.

“By putting their patients and workforce first each and every day, Allegheny Health Network is demonstrating their unwavering commitment to their employees and to the communities they serve,” said Patrick T. Ryan, chairman and CEO, Press Ganey. “The caregivers at AHN have inspired us with the compassion, empathy and human connection they bring to the clinical health care setting. We are honored to partner with them as we celebrate their achievement.”
