Akima Subsidiary Receives Appraisal for Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3
Achievement signifies company's ability to deliver agile, seamless service delivery for government projects.

The appraisal was performed by Integrated Quality Corporation (IQ Corp). One example of the company's expertise in agile software development is in support of the U.S. Air Force's Enterprise Service Desk (ESD). When the Air Force migrated more than 250 separate networks into a single, centrally managed global network, they quickly realized the existing IT ESD could not keep up with the number of tickets being submitted. Using the standards outlined by CMMI Level 3, the Akima team developed the Air Force's virtual Enterprise Service Desk (vESD)—a client-based, tier-zero automated tool set that allows users to resolve common e-mail, network, software, hardware, or phone issues without ever engaging IT staff. vESD is deployed to all U.S. Air Force Major Commands totaling over 850,000 users. By leveraging the Scrum framework of agile project management, the Akima team was able to reduce the software release cycle time for vESD by more than half.
