LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alex Galindo with Curd Galindo & Smith, LLP, Long Beach Trial Lawyers, Announces that he has filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court Case No.: 21STCV32725.
The lawsuit alleges that LASD Sheriff Deputy Armando Ibarra struck and killed Karen Land the mother of three adult sons.
The court records allege that on December 11, 2020, the Decedent, KAREN LAND, who was suffering from mental illness and was confined to a wheelchair was attempting to cross Imperial Highway at Slater Street in her wheelchair near a marked cross-walk in the City of Los Angeles.
The lawsuit further alleges that Ms. Land collapsed and fell into Imperial Highway in or near the marked cross-walk which is marked with street signage. The lawsuit alleges that several motorists observed Ms. Land in the street near the curb and swerved or stopped to avoid striking her. The lawsuit alleges that a motorist stopped and activated his hazard lights and then slowly drove around Ms. Land. The lawsuit alleges that seconds later Ms. Land was struck and killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff patrol vehicle driven by defendant ARMANDO IBARRA. The lawsuit alleges that the patrol vehicle was driving at excessive speed for the conditions.
The lawsuit alleges that the sheriff deputy was driving at excessive speeds while in the course and scope of his employment with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept but was not on an official call nor was he traveling with lights and siren. The lawsuit alleges that the sheriff deputy failed to swerve, stop and avoid striking Ms. Land who was in distress while attempting to cross Imperial Highway in a marked cross walk.
Ms. Land is survived by her three adult sons.
