According to Ryals’ son, his father James Badhouse, was born Alfred Ryals, in Jacksonville Florida. He moved to Los Angeles California in the mid-1980s he spent a lot of time on the beaches playing the bongos, drawing pictures for passer Byers and making sculptures, African mask sculptures, and African themed walking canes, selling them on the beaches in California.
