DriBlades™ are the first product to enable players to wear their skates while training off-ice.
SASKATOON, Saskatchewan, July 11, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alien Kinetics™ Technologies came out of stealth today, announcing the launch of its first training product, DriBlades™ off-ice training blades. DriBlades off-ice training blades are skate blades for off-ice training, designed to maximize an athlete's strength, flexibility, and balance.
Alien Kinetics™ is the vision of co-founders Kelly Riou, a renowned hockey trainer, and Zenon Dragan, an already very successful innovator.
Riou is a former professional hockey player who, after his career, earned a degree in Kinesiology. In 2012, Riou opened a private gym in Saskatoon, SK, that has become the off-season training home to many NHL players, including several Stanley Cup winners.
"My job as a specialized hockey trainer is to help my guys maximize their on-ice performance by doing everything we can to get stronger and faster," said co-founder Kelly Riou. "How do you get better on your skates? You train in your skates."
One of the most significant issues for hockey players across North America is the lack of ice time available. The DriBlades™ off-ice training blades technology reverses that equation by targeting specific skating muscles and significantly improving a hockey player's performance by training in their skates while off the ice.
"DriBlades™ off-ice training blades are the culmination of years of research and development," said co-founder Zenon Dragan. "Our blades enhance dry-land training by replicating the biomechanical and physical effects of practicing on ice. By providing an unstable surface, we allow athletes to train like they play, targeting a player's skating-specific muscles and leading to improved performance."
Zenon, another Saskatoon native, was best known as the founder of DraganFly Innovation (Nasdaq: DPRO).
"NHL pros flock to Kelly's gym in the off-season to train with him. It's a truly unique training experience that we can now bring to other players of all skill levels with the DriBlades™ technology," said co-founder Jason Johnson. "We provide the right tools combined with free and engaging video training exercises, the same ones Kelly uses to help NHL players improve their skating stride and overall on-ice speed."
Johnson is both a former pro-athlete and an Emmy Award winner in sports video production, where he has produced award-winning content for many networks, including ESPN, NBC Sports, and the MLB Network.
DriBlades™ off-ice training blades are fully compatible with leading hockey skate brands and can be installed in seconds. They can be used while training in the gym or when working out at home. They can be used individually or in a team setting.
"It is like a driving range for hockey," said NHL forward Chandler Stevens. "They can help move a good skater to become a great skater."
"We had a lot of benefits by not rushing the product to market," said Marla Katz, Head of Operations for Alien Kinetics™. "Kelly has worked with professional hockey players for years in the gym with different versions of our DriBlades™. The time we had testing the products, with both male and female players, helped fine-tune the product and the supporting education. Not rushing also provided our in-house IP attorney, Cory Furman, the time to protect our efforts, as we filed a lengthy list of patents around both the DriBlades™ off-ice training blades and our other unique off-ice training products currently being developed by Alien Kinetics™."
