PITTSBURGH (PRWEB) April 26, 2019 -- Susan Manzi, MD, MPH, Chair, Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Medicine Institute, is the recipient of the Catholic Youth Association’s 2019 John E. McGrady Award. Dr. Manzi, a national and international leader in lupus patient care and research, will be presented with the award next Monday evening at the 46th Art Rooney Awards Dinner & Auction.

A board-certified rheumatologist, Dr. Manzi is co-founder of the Lupus Center of Excellence at the AHN Autoimmunity Institute. As Medical Director for the Foundation, she led efforts to address gaps in education and the health care needs of people with lupus, and to advance the science and medicine of lupus. She serves the Foundation today as the chair of its national board of directors.
“Ever sensitive to those with devastating illnesses such as lupus, which disproportionately affects women, the Rooney Family and the Catholic Youth Association are pleased to honor Dr. Manzi with this award in recognition of her groundbreaking research, compassionate patient care and tireless efforts to bring autoimmune diseases to the forefront of community awareness,” said Mary Ann Heneroty, CEO, Catholic Youth Association.
Dr. Manzi attended Greensburg Salem High School in Westmoreland County before going on to the University of Notre Dame where she graduated magna cum laude.
