DEXTER, Mich., Oct. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alpha Metal Finishing, a family owned company providing rapid turnaround finishing for more than 40 years, is pleased to announce the most recent enhancement of their capabilities with the installation of a stainless steel passivation line. The new line enables Alpha to provide chemical passivation of customers' parts in conformance with ASTM A967 or ASTM A380.
Passivation is a non-electrolytic process which maximizes the natural corrosion resistance of stainless steel. It can remove surface contamination, such as particles of free-iron or dirt particles from cutting tools that can form rust or act as initiation sites for corrosion. Alpha uses nitric acid to remove free-iron (and dirt) from the surface and this forms an inert, protective oxide layer.
"We are very excited to begin offering passivation to our customer base since many of them manufacture both aluminum and steel products," stated Jamie Barrus, Quality Assurance Manager. "I have been asked many times by customers if we could provide this service." Greg Wood, Chief Operating Officer, says, "It's been a dream of ours for many years to add stainless passivation to our list of capabilities. We have an expert project team that worked diligently to make this happen. Passivation fits well with our business model and relationships with customers and suppliers. It will provide another solid revenue stream and building block to our long-term strategy."
