CHICAGO, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- What happens when artificial intelligence moves from the headlines into our homes, schools and workplaces?
That question is at the center of "America vs. AI," a new documentary project led by Andrew DeGood, founder and CEO of AskBobAI, and Liz Short, leadership and organizational performance consultant. Together, DeGood and Short will travel more than 3,400 miles across the United States this October, stopping in more than 20 cities to hear directly from Americans about how artificial intelligence is changing their lives.
Over 15 days, DeGood and Short will sit down with workers, parents, students, teachers, business owners, retirees, technology leaders and everyday Americans to capture a snapshot of the country at a pivotal moment in the rise of AI.
The conversations will explore questions that are becoming increasingly personal: Is AI making our jobs easier or putting them at risk? How is it changing the way our children learn? What happens to education when every student has access to an AI tutor? Can AI give small businesses capabilities once reserved for large corporations? What happens to trust when a photograph, voice or video can be artificially generated? And, perhaps most importantly, are we prepared for how quickly all of this is happening?
"We hear a lot about what AI might do someday," said DeGood. "We want to document what it's doing right now. How is it changing life for a teacher, a business owner, a parent or a student? This isn't about whether AI is good or bad. It's about listening to the people living through it."
For Short, the journey is also about understanding the human side of a transformation that is often discussed primarily through the lens of technology.
"AI isn't just a technology story anymore. It's a people's story," said Short. "It's changing how we work, how we learn, how we lead and how we think about the future. We want to understand what people are excited about, what they're worried about and what they're experiencing that isn't making the headlines."
Rather than centering the film exclusively on technology executives and AI experts, DeGood and Short will turn the microphone toward the people experiencing the technology firsthand. The pair plans to conduct interviews in workplaces, schools, businesses, diners and communities along the route, including spontaneous conversations with people who may have little or no experience using AI.
Filmmaker and content producer Alyx Ancira will travel with DeGood and Short, documenting both the interviews and the unscripted moments that emerge along the way.
The planned route begins and ends in Chicago and includes stops in Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashville, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Asheville, Greensboro, Durham, Raleigh, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark/Jersey City, New York, Boston/Cambridge, Syracuse and Buffalo.
The production is also inviting people along the route to participate. "We want to hear from people on every side of this," DeGood said. "The people embracing AI, the workers wondering what it means for their jobs, parents thinking about their children's future, teachers seeing it enter the classroom, and entrepreneurs discovering what they can build with it. We also want to hear from people who haven't touched AI at all. This story is about how America is experiencing this moment, not just the people building the technology."
The documentary will examine both the opportunities and anxieties surrounding AI without beginning with a predetermined conclusion. The goal is to create a human portrait of a technological shift that is moving faster than many people expected and preserve what Americans were thinking, feeling and experiencing as that shift unfolded.
America vs. AIwill capture voices and stories from across the country throughout the journey, from planned interviews to spontaneous conversations along the way. Short-form footage, interviews and updates from the road will be released throughout the trip, followed by the completed documentary. People who live near one of the scheduled stops and have a story or perspective about AI are encouraged to participate. If AI has changed your job, your business, your classroom, your family or the way you think about the future, America vs. AI wants to hear your story.
