"The inaugural honoree list recognizes women who are driving innovation and inclusion in this unique segment of financial services. These are proven mission-driven leaders who value their members, employees and positive workplace experiences as much as their business goals."

American Banker, the premier business information resource for senior leaders in financial services, announced today its inaugural list of honorees for The Most Powerful Women in Credit Unions. The program, which launched this year, celebrates women leaders who are guiding the future of the industry while examining issues of mentorship and diversity.

The new initiative expands on American Banker’s recognition programs specifically for the credit union community, including Best Credit Unions to Work For.

The Most Powerful Women in Credit Unions list recognizes 25 outstanding women across different roles from organizations of varying sizes. These individuals are not only driving compelling business outcomes, they are furthering their company missions and strengthening their relationships with the communities they serve — including working to close the wealth gap, helping customers navigate the current economic climate, and supporting affordable housing and other infrastructure initiatives.

Some of this year’s standouts include:

  • Mary McDuffie, President and CEO, Navy Federal Credit Union
  • Amy McGillan, SVP of Operations, PenFed Credit Union
  • Fumbi Chima, EVP and Chief Technology & Transformation Officer, BECU-• Donna Bland, President and CEO, Golden 1 Credit Union
  • Sandy Jelinski, CEO, Lake Michigan Credit Union

"The inaugural Most Powerful Women in Credit Unions honoree list recognizes the women who are driving innovation and inclusion in this very unique segment of the financial services industry,” says Daniel Wolfe, Content Director at American Banker. “These are proven mission-driven leaders who value their members, employees and positive workplace experiences as much as their business goals.”

The Most Powerful Women in Credit Unions is a part of American Banker's continued coverage of the progress in diversity, equity and inclusion throughout financial services, and expands on the mission of supporting, empowering, celebrating and advancing women in the banking industry, including The Most Powerful Women in BankingTM, now in its twentieth year.

Nominations for the program were open to any women leaders who are primarily employed at a credit union. Applications were read by a selection committee of American Banker staff members and judged on qualities such as leadership, teamwork and personal initiative.
