(PRWEB) May 03, 2018 -- The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has joined forces with BurnAlong, the online video fitness and wellness platform, to challenge Baltimore-based companies to have the healthiest employees across the city (joining a national competition taking place in cities across the country).
“There’s nothing like healthy rivalry between companies, and ultimately everyone wins as employees become more focused on their health and wellness. Whether it’s taking cardio or yoga classes, or mindfulness and nutrition classes, all participation counts. There’s something for all ages, levels, and interests. Last year we saw an amazing group of companies across all sectors participate, from the Baltimore Ravens to Brown Advisory to BlisPay to Clearview to RESE Title to the Ulman Cancer Fund. Registration for the challenge opens on May 1st and the challenges runs through December 31st. The winner is chosen based on the number of employee hours logged taking part in online exercise and wellness classes through the BurnAlong platform in a 4-week period up to December 31. Last year’s Baltimore winner was the Ulman Cancer Fund.
The American Diabetes Association, an organization who strives to empower Maryland residents to live their healthiest lives today, is proud to partner with BurnAlong to promote the Healthiest Companies Challenge.
“The ADA is all about preventing diabetes for those at risk, and helping those who have diabetes to manage it well. In addition, we frequently work with companies to educate employees about the importance of proper nutrition and exercise. We see our alignment with BurnAlong as a natural extension of that work, and a fun way to get employers thinking about the importance of employee health,” said David McShea, Executive Director of the American Diabetes Association in Maryland.
In addition, companies participating in the Healthiest Companies Challenge can also form teams for the ADA’s Tour de Cure event on June 3rd at Goucher College. Many companies across Maryland participate annually in this cycling event with 63, 30, and 12 mile routes. This year ADA has added a 5K run, for those more interested in running, as well as 5K walk.
“Whether it’s taking an online exercise class or riding in the Tour de Cure, the end goal is the same: healthier employees across Baltimore. That is what we are all after,” added Daniel.
