Impactful Event Shifts to Drive-Thru Format to Serve Individuals and Families in Need

HeroZona Foundation is excited to announce its 17th annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, now in drive-thru format to ensure the safety of volunteers and individuals picking up the donations. On Monday, November 23, families in need will receive free turkeys beginning at noon at the Travis L. Williams American Legion Post 65 (1624 E. Broadway Rd.) There will be a limit of one frozen turkey per family, no income requirements or ID necessary, while supplies last.

“While COVID-19 has uprooted many traditions within our communities, the holiday season remains a source of joy for many and we want to preserve that,” says HeroZona President Ron Williams. “This giveaway has been a crucial event for our community as there are many underserved families that benefit from receiving aid during this time. Food scarcity is a massive issue in South Phoenix and HeroZona is committed to helping in any way possible.”

The giveaway is supported by a variety of different partners including Andrew and Amy Cohn, Phoenix Police Department, Phoenix Fire Department, Crescent Crown Distributing, Veteran Entrepreneurial Training & Resource Network (VETRN), Mega 104.3, 101.1 The Beat, Arizona Diamondbacks, Safeway, U.S. Representative for District 7 Ruben Gallego, Arizona State District 27 Senator Rebecca Rios, Arizona State District 27 Representative Reginald Bolding, Arizona State District 27 Representative Diego Rodriguez, Maricopa County District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo, City of Phoenix District 8 Councilmember Carlos Garcia, 100 Black Men of Phoenix, Greater Phoenix Urban League, Forty Eight Foundation, La Campesina 101.9 Phoenix and the African American Christian Clergy Coalition.

“The support from all of HeroZona’s various community partners is truly what allows the foundation to make this possible,” says Alan Powell, chairman of AP & Associates - Strategic Alliances, U.S. Army Desert-Storm Veteran and HeroZona cofounder. “Our goal is to ensure that families in the community have the opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving regardless of their financial situation.”

HeroZona Foundation has launched various community programs including the largest COVID-19 testing site at South Mountain Community College, Phoenix Tools 4 School, The Bridge Forum Holiday Bike Giveaways, MLK Celebrating the Dream, Play It Forward: Engaging Our Youth Through the Arts, Veterans Reach to Teach and the HeroZona Forgotten Heroes Breakfast.
