"America's Hottest Housing Market – Again"
According to Realtor.com, Manchester, New Hampshire is the country's hottest housing market. It is the 29th time it has grabbed the top spot.
"Dr. Beach's Top 10 US Beaches"
Dr. Beach has released his annual list of America's best beaches. Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Hawaii took the top spot, followed by Coopers Beach in New York and Wailea Beach in Hawaii. Florida and Hawaii both had three beaches ranked in the top ten.
"America's Most Affordable Retirement Town"
U.S. News and World Report recently looked at retirement costs in 150 large US cities to determine the most affordable town for retirement. After factoring in data such as housing, health care and taxes, Youngstown, Ohio was ranked #1.
"Las Vegas Is Baby Boomers #1 Retirement Choice"
The generation that grew up with Captain Kangaroo and Woodstock prefers the excitement of Las Vegas for their retirement years. According to a recent survey of baby boomers by a financial services company, "Las Vegas ranked as the top spot for retirement thanks to its affordability, tax friendliness to retirees, ease of access to health care, and of course, its year-round sunshine." Tampa and Orlando were the next two top choices for retirement.
"Just In Time For Halloween: Nicolas Cage's Haunted Mansion"
A New Orleans mansion once owned by Nicolas Cage, and which many people believe is haunted, is for sale at $9 million. Located in the French Quarter, the grand property has been the subject of ghost stories since 1834, when a fire destroyed much of the mansion and seven mutilated slaves were discovered locked in the home. One of the city's most beautiful homes, features include a wraparound balcony and a rooftop deck.
"Inflation Better, Except Stubborn Home Prices"
While US inflation has cooled significantly in the past year, housing costs are still going up. The average mortgage payment has increased to $2,070, up over 7% from 2023.
"World's Most Expensive Cities"
The world's ten most expensive cities are all in Europe or the United States, with Geneva as the most expensive followed by Zurich. New York, San Francisco, Boston, Washington DC, Seattle, LA and Chicago also made the top ten along with Reykjavik, Iceland. Cost factors include cost of living, rent, groceries and restaurant prices. Karachi, Pakistan is the most affordable of the 218 towns in the study.
"Billy Joel Lists Long Island Estate"
Billy Joel has listed his 26-acre Long Island waterfront home for $49.9 million. Consisting of four properties: the Main House, Beach House, Guest House, and the Gate House, Billy bought the property in 2002 for $22.5 million and then invested a few million dollars more on the compound. The 20,000-square-foot Main House includes 30-foot-tall cathedral ceilings, a ballroom and views of Long Island Sound.
"Baby Boomer Town Has a Kids Boom"
Florida's The Villages has been the United States' fastest-growing town for years due to its ever-expanding growth of retirees attracted by an abundance of golf courses, restaurants and activities geared to the over-55 crowd. And even though almost all of The Villages residents are 55 and older, the metro area is the fastest-growing region for young children in the United States, due to the many young parent-service workers who live nearby but work in The Villages.
"Miami Home Prices Plunge 12% & San Diego Down 9%"
With high interest rates and a slower real estate market grinding on for months, US home prices have come down in much of the country. Miami condo and home prices have fallen almost 12% in the past year. San Diego home prices fell 9.1%, and Kansas City prices are down 8.5%.
