TAMPA BAY, Fla., Dec. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- It's a quote that's oft-attributed to Apple's Steve Jobs: "The best way to predict the future is to invent it." (Others credit Peter Drucker, Alan Kay or Dennis Gabor.) Regardless of its precise origin, the quote has served as Silicon Valley's seminal siren song for decades, inspiring untold generations of tech pioneers to defy conventional wisdom and follow their dreams -- and, ultimately, transform our world for the better.
At Chargebacks911, a cybersecurity company based in Tampa Bay, Florida, the next generation of hi-tech dreamers are working right now to reinvent an online future that's safer, faster and free of fraud.
And even their interns are contributing.
"We all love shopping online," said Benjamin Bridwell, the Chief of Staff at Chargebacks911. "It's convenient and fun, and obviously, the economic impact is incredible: Amazon now has more than ten times the annual revenue of McDonald's! But the success and size of the eCommerce economy hasn't gone unnoticed by cybercriminals. Post-sale fraud, chargeback abuse and other financial crimes are absolutely plaguing online retail, and the problem is rapidly growing."
This growth has led to new opportunities for qualified Tampa Bay interns who've always longed to follow in the footsteps of tech pioneers like Steve Jobs, but were unsure how to begin.
A limited number of Chargebacks911 internships are currently available; please visit https://chargebacks911.com/careers/, or contact Chargebacks911 directly at [email protected].
"Currently, Chargebacks911 is protecting more than 200 million eCommerce transactions each month," said Bridwell. "It's a lot of work, and we have hundreds upon hundreds of highly-trained employees. But the one constant in our industry is that the next paradigm-shifting disruption is just around the corner. The fraudsters, scammers and criminals aren't resting, and neither can we. Because of this, fresh, innovative ideas are essential. Creativity is vital. I don't care if you're an intern or a senior VP; if you have a good idea, I want to hear what you have to say. We all do."
Dado Kalem, Chargebacks911's Director of Operations, agreed: "We're so fortunate to have these talented, hardworking interns on our team. Sure, they're learning a lot from us, but we're also learning a lot from them. They're so excited and energized to change the world, and their optimism is simply infectious. Not only have they been a wonderful addition to Chargebacks911, but I think there's an excellent chance that many of these interns will be with us for the long-haul. It just seems like a perfect fit."
This sense of camaraderie and openness creates a working environment at Chargebacks911 where interns can develop the skills necessary to succeed in the fast-paced STEM sector, while also being guided and helped in a supportive, team-centric environment.
"I'm grateful and lucky," said Jemel Barreto, a USF senior who interned at Chargebacks911 as a data analyst in 2019. "I can definitely say my skills have sharpened, and the flexibility within the company has given me far greater insight into this industry. This place has so much potential, and it's growing exponentially."
Baretto aspires to launch a hi-tech company that "redesigns data architecture" for large businesses and corporations one day, but in the near-future, he hopes to continue working at Chargebacks911 as a full-time employee.
Daniel Rocchi, a college senior who interned with Jemel Barreto, also spoke glowingly of his experiences: "I have been having a great time! I guess my favorite thing about working at Chargebacks911 is the cool software I get to work with. The projects I get to work on definitely make me feel more like a part of the team than just an intern."
Chargebacks911 has also welcomed interns from local Tampa Bay high schools. Nicole Stevens, a high school junior, interned with the company in 2019 and was effusive with her praise: "I have loved working here so far. Everyone around me has been helpful and inviting. The environment is great to work in, and is very adaptable. I'm glad I got the opportunity to work here with everyone. It's been a really great experience!"
With more internships available in 2020, Bridwell is encouraging "STEM-driven" Tampa Bay students to contact Chargebacks911 and learn more.
"A career in STEM isn't for everyone, and I want to be very upfront about this fact," said Bridwell. "If you hate surprises and want everything to always stay the same, then this is definitely the wrong industry for you. But if you love technology, yearn to innovate, and aren't afraid of hard work, then a career in tech might help make all your other dreams come true. And if that's your true passion, then being an intern is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door."
Intern Jemel Barreto offered this final insight: "The atmosphere is great, the flexibility is wonderful… I am quite grateful for the opportunity, and we shall see where the future takes me here at Chargebacks911!"
