Anasazi Foundation Hosts Event on Raising Resilient Children Saturday, June 15 in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, May 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Behavioral health provider Anasazi Foundation and NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young's Forever Young Foundation have teamed up to host a training event for Utah parents and educators, Raising Resilient Children, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Olympus Jr. High School, located at 2217 E. 4800 S in Salt Lake City.

Matt Townsend, Collin Kartchner and a host of renowned speakers will discuss the social trends impacting families today and how to reduce anxiety, depression, self-harm and 'failure-to-launch' in today's youth.

Attendees will also learn which preventive efforts have the greatest impact and what parents and teachers can do to make a difference.

"Because these symptoms occur within the heart and mind of each individual, they are often difficult to see," says Michael Merchant, Chairman of the Board at Anasazi Foundation. "We must become more aware and more connected—and provide opportunities for our children to develop the capabilities to self-regulate and recover quickly from the difficulties and stressors of life."

According to the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Utah high school students reported the following:

• 33 percent felt sad or hopeless
• 21.6 percent seriously considered attempting suicide
• 17.1 percent made a suicide plan, 9.6 percent attempted suicide one or more times
• 4 percent of these students suffered an injury, poisoning or an overdose that had to be treated by a doctor or nurse

In 2017, suicide was the leading cause of death in Utah for young people ages 10 to 17 and ages 18 to 24. Utah also had the fifth highest age-adjusted suicide rates in the U.S. in 2017.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the program begins at 9 a.m., with lunch served between the morning and afternoon programs.
