Andrew Ting, MD Supports Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with Seacoast Safari
Nashua, NH (PRWEB) December 11, 2013 -- Andrew Ting, MD has gone to great lengths over the past eleven years in raising both funds and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This past June, the lengths he went to were in a bit more of a literal sense than usual.
The Seacoast Safari is a two-day cycling event in which participants cover 150 miles of the Maine coastline by bicycle alone. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation organizes the event, with participants of the ride all doing their part to raise funds for the foundation. Ting continued his long history of support for the Foundation by raising over $1,600 in charitable donations.
Ting had a personal encounter eleven years ago that caused him to begin supporting the foundation’s efforts. “I came to know about this rare disease 11 years ago when I came to know Sara, a newborn, who was diagnosed with CF through the Massachusetts newborn screening tests,” said Dr. Andrew Ting. “Ever since meeting Sara I have seen it as a duty of mine to continue to support the efforts of CFF in finding advances in technologies and medicines to help people like her. It is just one small way that I can contribute.”
According to CFF, there is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis, but it seems as though the research has advanced enough to offer hope for a cure in the not-too-distant future. Fundraising efforts such as Ting’s are helping to ensure that the goal is eventually realized.
CFF Executive Director Lisa O'Connor explained that while Dr. Andrew Ting's fundraising history has been outstanding raising over $25,000, "Andrew’s long term commitment to the event is more than outstanding. He dedicates himself to this event every year which we are so grateful for. His fundraising is crucial, but equally so is his positive and encouraging presence each year."
“The foundation is doing wonderful work, and it is quite amazing to be able to be involved in their noble pursuits,” said Andrew Ting, MD. “They are truly tireless, and have made it a goal to continue to seek life-saving therapies for those who are impacted by Cystic Fibrosis.”
The Seacoast Safari event was considered to be a great success by all who participated. “The ride is always a bit difficult, but we have a lot of great motivation to keep on pedaling,” said Ting, recalling the trying aspects of the cycling event. “It is easy to press on when you know that your efforts and the efforts of all of the riders will result in a great deal of good for a great deal of people.”
