Dr. Sam Collins to Address Collective Courage and Inclusive Action on Women's Equality Day 2021
CALABASAS, Calif., Aug. 20, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dr. Sam Collins, Founder of Aspire for Equality and host of the Stripped Back podcast, will speak on Women's Equality Day, August 26, to address "Collective Courage," a rallying cry to all genders to embrace not just gender parity, but the intersectionalities between gender, race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, income, religious beliefs and disability.
Women's Equality Day commemorates the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, prohibiting the government from denying voting rights on the basis of gender. However, while white women of the day received the vote, racism and racist backlash caused many to abandon the Black Suffragettes who had fought by their side. Voting rights for Black, Asian and Native Americans came decades later. But even today, bias and voter suppression continues to haunt the democratic process in the United States, and many other countries around the world.
"This year's Women's Equality Day is critical as a call to action for all genders," Dr. Collins said. "Long before 1920, women have known courage can come with a cost—from women being burned at the stake for 'witchcraft,' to Suffrage backlash, to bra-burning protests of the 1960's, to the #MeToo movement. But change must be collective, and inclusive. As recent rallies, events, and protests have proved, all genders have had enough of the disregard for equality, and the maintenance of sexism, racism, and every form of discrimination. We've lost some momentum, and this is one way to get it back."
Dr. Collins will speak on the power of collective courage, organizational and social rebelliousness, and ways to shift the "battle of the sexes" into an inclusive and optimistic rallying cry, which ultimately benefits the entire world. 100% of proceeds from this Aspire for Equality event will be donated to Women for Women International, Emergency Support for Afghan Women.
