Announcing Children's Museums at Home: Virtual Programming and Resources from Children's Museums around the World
The new Children's Museums at Home database from the Association of Children's Museums (ACM) shares virtual resources and programming from more than 240 ACM museum members.
ARLINGTON, Va., May 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Association of Children's Museums (ACM) has launched Children's Museums at Home. This new searchable online database shares the virtual activities and resources that more than 240 ACM members are creating for families at home.
Said ACM Executive Director Laura Huerta Migus, "While their doors are closed, children's museums around the world are adapting the museum experience to encourage playful learning and support joyful, child-centered experiences. Children's museums are showing that, even when they cannot operate as local destinations for visitors, they can leverage their roles as educational laboratories, community resources, and advocates for children."
ACM research shows that, as of March 19, all children's museums in the U.S. and most around the world have closed to help slow the spread of COVID-19. In the weeks since, more than 240 ACM members—making up more than 70 percent of ACM's museum membership—have begun creating virtual programming to support families at home.
The Children's Museums at Home database is searchable by museum name, location, and type of programming. While programming varies from museum to museum, different content types include hands-on STEAM activities, caregiver resources, sensory and imaginative play, story times and singalongs, and more.
