Announcing the Largest-Ever Volunteering Event in the U.S. Tech Industry

BOSTON, October 03, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- TUGG, the non-profit arm of Boston's tech community, today announced that it has partnered with Silicon Valley Bank and hundreds of the region's top local businesses and non-profits to organize Tech Gives Back (October 10–11), the largest tech industry volunteering event in America.

"TUGG's Tech Gives Back is the largest industry-focused philanthropic event in Boston, and has become one of the largest in the world," said TUGG Executive Director Mike Cole. "We've grown organically from 200 volunteers in our inaugural year to more than 3,000 as our partners roll out similar events across the country. We've positioned ourselves as a conduit to make community service easy for the tech community and are always delighted to see the number of volunteers, sponsors, and non-profits increase each year."

Tech Gives Back is a fun, interactive event created to provide the Boston tech community with an opportunity to work alongside their colleagues to contribute their time to projects that serve the elderly, youth in poverty, homeless families, and young people emerging from the criminal justice system. Tech Gives Back 2019 has several new initiatives, including:

•     Skill Based Volunteering: The core of Tech Gives Back remains in the kinds of activities that come to mind when thinking about volunteering — the physical, hands-on opportunities that are great team builders and help nonprofits with some of their "heavier-lift" items. This year, TUGG invited nonprofits to also submit a business problem — it could be tech, marketing, or finance focused — as a means of maximizing their volunteers' time to do something that is tangibly different. These volunteer opportunities will have a variety of team sizes and tasks needed (such as hackathons, awareness building, and IT audits), and will offer a fresh and exciting way to get involved this year.
•     48in48 (October 25th-27th): 48in48 is a nonprofit whose mission to build 48 websites for 48 nonprofits in 48 hours. They travel to different cities around the country and host weekend-long hackathons to upgrade nonprofits' web presences overnight. While technically outside of the Tech Gives Back dates, TUGG encourages all of its volunteers to take a strong look at donating their time to help this cause.
