ASHLAND, Va., Sept. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On October 14, 2020, Northwestern University and Anton Paar USA will team up to host the 1st Annual Midwest Workshop on Multiscale Surface Characterization, a 1-day virtual workshop focused on multiscale surface characterization, nanoscience, and materials behavior. The workshop will feature an impressive lineup of speakers from Northwestern University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign, and Anton Paar USA, and the agenda is built with the overall mission statement in mind: inform and inspire present and future leaders while recognizing excellence across the fields of applied sciences, engineering, and physical sciences.
In addition to the featured speakers, the event will also feature a student presentation contest, allowing students to compete for cash prizes as they present in front of a panel of scientists from both industry and academia.
Dr. Ange Therese Akono, organizer and assistant professor at Northwestern, is quick to note the high priority placed on facilitating discussion and presentations between current and future innovators: "My hope is for the event to bring together a community passionate about nanoscale phenomena and novel materials," she said. "I want to see new collaborations flourish so that we can all witness new scientific discoveries."
Dr. Norbert Ponweiser from Anton Paar USA expressed similar sentiments. "It is always exciting to bring together a group of such respected members of a field," he said, "and allowing students to interact in these discussions and even present their work makes this event very exciting."
Continued Ponweiser, "it is very possible that some of the experts the students present to at this event will be future research partners."
Registration for the virtual workshop is open until September 11. Students wishing to submit an abstract for a 5-minute presentation are able to do so via the registration process.
