JOHNSTOWN, Colo., Nov. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Saturday, Nov. 10, with the help of several shovel-clad local children, AP broke ground on the new debt-free Johnstown Community Recreation Center.
This community center will be the new home of the Johnstown Community YMCA. The 70,000-sf facility will include a gymnasium, multi-purpose exercise rooms, multi-purpose meeting rooms, locker rooms, staff offices, and an indoor track and surface parking for 200 to 240 cars. The large aquatic center features a lazy river, slide and lap pool.
In celebration of the occasion Mayor Scott James, the steering committee, the Town Council, LaCouture, Perkins+Will and AP contributed to breaking ground on the 10-acre site. Children were also encouraged to bring along their own shovels to join the ceremony.
"We're incredibly excited to begin work on this project," said Construction Manager Anthony Durst. "We know how important this is to the Johnstown community and we look forward to building a facility that is so needed."
The recreation center is anticipated to open by mid-2020.
