APSHO Presents Regional Lecture Series
AUSTIN, TX (PRWEB) June 13, 2016 -- The Advanced Practitioners Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO) is pleased to announce a series of live continuing medical education (CME) meetings. This accredited meeting series titled, “APSHO Regional Lecture Series,” is designed for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, advanced degree nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and non-small cell lung cancer.

After participating in a non-small cell lung cancer program, participants should be able to:
• Demonstrate a foundational understanding of how to interpret imaging studies that are used in the management of NSCLC
• Choose relevant molecular/biomarker tests to identify the most appropriate therapy for the patient with NSCLC (e.g., targeted or immunotherapy)
• Use appropriate management strategies for toxicities associated with targeted therapies
• Differentiate between the various treatment options available for NSCLC: Comparing mechanisms of action, toxicity profiles, and monitoring
• Manage toxicities associated with different agents used to treat NSCLC
• Demonstrate an understanding of the science behind immune checkpoint inhibition and how this drug category differs from other available and evolving options for NSCLC, including cytotoxic chemotherapy
After participating in a multiple myeloma and/or chronic lymphocytic leukemia program, participants should be able to:
• Multiple Myeloma
o Demonstrate a general understanding of how to perform a bone marrow biopsy
o Describe the various mechanisms of action of agents used to treat multiple myeloma
o Apply the principles of risk-adapted treatment using case-based scenarios to illustrate the impact of patient attributes and disease specific attributes
o Manage toxicities associated with newer agents used to treat multiple myeloma
o Apply the principles of adjunctive supportive care in the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma
• Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
o Apply the principles of risk-adapted treatment using case-based scenarios to illustrate the impact of patient attributes and disease specific attributes
o Manage toxicities associated with newer agents used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia
o Describe the role of oral therapies in treating patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia
